Medway Development Company celebrates five years of regeneration success

Date posted 21/10/2025

Medway Development Company (MDC), the development arm of Medway Council, joined together with council representatives, partners and guests for a special celebration marking five years of regeneration and housing delivery across Medway.

Established in 2020 by Medway Council, MDC was created to deliver high-quality residential developments across the area, transforming underused brownfield sites into vibrant new neighbourhoods and supporting Medway’s wider regeneration ambitions.

By mid-2025, MDC had delivered 375 new homes across Medway through landmark schemes such as Chatham Waterfront and played a key role in revitalising the surrounding town centre, including the award-winning new gardens and social open space at The Paddock.

To mark the milestone, guests gathered in MDC Marketing Suite on Friday 10 October to celebrate MDC’s achievements and look ahead to the next decade of development. Speeches were given by Medway Council Leader, Vince Maple, MDC Managing Director, Lewis Small, and MDC Board Chairman, David Gannicott, followed by presentations and guided tours of MDC’s current and future sites.

Guests had the opportunity to explore Chatham Waterfront, viewing the latest show home apartment, Riverside Walk and new commercial units, before visiting Mountbatten House, a landmark project currently being transformed into 164 high-quality residential apartments.

The event also provided an opportunity to share what’s next for MDC, with proposals underway to deliver a further 380 new homes through upcoming developments at Mountbatten House, Strood Civic and Upper Mount.

The newly launched MDC Business Plan 2025–2035 sets out ambitious plans for the next phase of regeneration, focusing on creating places where people can live, work, learn and enjoy. The plan also prioritises local employment, with MDC committed to working with Medway-based contractors and trades. Currently, 60 Medway residents are directly employed on MDC construction sites, helping to ensure the economic benefits of regeneration stay within the local community.

Lewis Small, Managing Director of Medway Development Company, said:

“In just five years, MDC has delivered high-quality new homes and public spaces that have transformed key parts of Medway. We’re incredibly proud of what’s been achieved so far, and even more excited about what’s to come. Our long-term vision will continue to support Medway’s regeneration, delivering great places for people to live and work while creating opportunities for local people and businesses.”

To mark these successes and achievements, a special video was commissioned to capture the great work delivered by MDC over the past five years and provide a glimpse of what was still to come and was premiered at the event.
