Medway Development Company launches The New Tide Shared Ownership Collection, bringing 56 new homes to Chatham
Date posted 29/10/2026
Medway Development Company (MDC) is launching 56 Shared Ownership homes at The New Tide at Mountbatten House in Chatham on Saturday 14th November, with viewings available by appointment only. Prospective buyers are invited to register their interest and book an appointment to find out more about the new homes. Connells is the appointed selling agent for the Shared Ownership homes and will support prospective buyers through the purchasing process.
The launch marks the latest milestone in the company’s growth and its contribution to the ongoing regeneration of Medway, bringing new homes, investment and renewed activity to the heart of Chatham Town Centre. The Shared Ownership collection also aims to support more eligible first-time buyers onto the property ladder, offering a route into home ownership in a well-connected town centre location.
Established by Medway Council in 2020, MDC was created to deliver high-quality residential development across the area, transforming underused brownfield sites into vibrant neighbourhoods and supporting the council’s wider regeneration ambitions. By mid-2025, the company had delivered 375 new homes across Medway through landmark schemes including Chatham Waterfront, while helping to revitalise the town centre through improvements to public spaces, including the award-winning gardens and social open space at The Paddock.
The launch of The New Tide builds on this track record, demonstrating MDC’s continued ambition to bring forward new homes while supporting the economic and social vitality of Medway’s towns.
Designed by architects Lyall Bills & Young, The New Tide has been thoughtfully reimagined to provide contemporary one- and two-bedroom apartments, bringing a prominent former office building back into active use. Most homes are dual aspect, with generous windows creating light-filled interiors, while private balconies and views across the River Medway connect residents with Chatham’s historic waterfront.
Alongside the homes, the development will introduce new commercial and hospitality spaces and an improved public realm, completing a key pedestrian route between Chatham High Street and Chatham railway station. The enhanced connection will improve accessibility through the town centre, support local businesses and create a more welcoming environment for residents and visitors.
Lewis Small, Managing Director of Medway Development Company, said, “The launch of our shared ownership homes at The New Tide is an important milestone for MDC and reflects how far the company has come since it was established in 2020. We have built a strong track record of delivering new homes and contributing to the regeneration of Medway, and we’re continuing to build on that success with developments that respond to local needs and create lasting value for the area.
“Bringing Mountbatten House back into use is a clear example of how we can make better use of existing buildings to deliver new homes, improve the town centre and create opportunities for local people. The New Tide will offer people the opportunity to live in Chatham, while new commercial space and improved pedestrian connections will help strengthen the town centre.
“Our ambitions for MDC continue to grow, and we want to play an active role in shaping Medway’s future by delivering quality homes, supporting local economies and helping create places where communities can thrive.”
Shared Ownership will provide an accessible route into home ownership, allowing eligible buyers to purchase an initial share of their home and pay rent on the remaining share, with the option to increase their ownership over time. The build-to-rent apartments will provide an alternative for those looking for a professionally managed rental home in a well-connected town centre location.
Residents will benefit from Chatham’s transport connections, including high-speed rail services to London, alongside the waterfront, local amenities and continued investment across Medway.
